This course is dedicated to the life, work, and legacy of Jérôme Lejeune, an extraordinary man whose scientific brilliance, medical vocation, and profound humanity continue to inspire people around the world. Through a series of lectures, personal testimonies, and direct encounters, this course offers a unique journey into the life of a man who distinguished himself not only by discovering Trisomy 21, the genetic cause of Down syndrome, but also by his unwavering commitment to every human life.
Participants will hear from distinguished personalities who knew him personally: doctors, professors, geneticists, lawyers, family members, colleagues who worked alongside him, and individuals whose lives have been deeply touched by his example. They will also listen to experts in bioethics who continue his legacy in the academic, clinical, and human spheres.
Jérôme Lejeune was a pioneering geneticist, physician, and researcher whose scientific achievements transformed modern medicine. Yet his legacy extends far beyond the laboratory. He was also a courageous defender of the dignity of human life and of the weakest members of our society, a devoted husband and father, and a man of deep Christian faith. Recognized by the Catholic Church as Venerable, his life remains a compelling witness to the harmony between science, humanity, and moral conviction.

Building on the success of the first 3 editions of the International Advanced Course on “Reparative Medicine for Male Reproductive Health”, the Department of Medicine of the University of Padova launches a new International Second-Level University Master’s Degree “REFINE – Restoring Natural Fertility – Personalized Medicine and Health Care in Couple Infertility”.
The Master’s Degree program is set up jointly with Fertílitas, Spain’s leading NaProTechnology clinic and the International Chair of Bioethics Jérôme Lejeune and in partnership with Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Universidad San Pablo-CEU, and Universidad CEU Fernando III.
The program offers an interdisciplinary education that combines Reproductive Medicine with Bioethics, preparing professionals to address infertility through scientific excellence, ethical reflection, and personalized patient care.

The 1st International Congress “Restoring Natural Fertility: Old challenges and new perspectives” brought together speakers from various countries who are experts in the field of infertility. It primarily involved physicians specialized in reproductive medicine, andrologists, urologists, gynecologists, endocrinologists, and other health professionals, all united by a shared interest in deepening knowledge and offering a new perspective on the treatment of infertility.
It was organized by the Andrology and Reproductive Medicine Unit of the Department of Medicine at the University of Padua, in collaboration with Fertílitas—the leading NaProTechnology clinic in Spain—and the International Chair of Bioethics Jérôme Lejeune. It’s approach is rooted in the medical and humanistic style of Jérôme Lejeune, combining scientific rigor with respect for the dignity of human life and human procreation.

Título propio especializado, que ofrece una formación en Bioética con un enfoque interdisciplinar. Proporciona a los estudiantes los conocimientos científicos, filosóficos y legales necesarios para analizar los problemas de Bioética desde la perspectiva de la Bioética Personalista, que respeta la dignidad de la persona, su integridad y libertad, desde su concepción hasta su muerte natural.
Ofrecido en colaboración con la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, los estudiantes adquirirán conocimientos avanzados en Bioética para poder afrontar y dar solución a los complejos dilemas bioéticos de manera científica, rigurosa y sistemática, desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar — biomédica, filosófica y legal — con un enfoque en la protección de la vida y la dignidad de la persona, desde el comienzo de su existencia hasta su muerte natural. Impartido en español, ofrece un nivel de estudios oficiales dentro del marco europeo, con acceso a continuar un doctorado en Europa.

Les étudiants acquerront des connaissances avancées en bioéthique afin de pouvoir affronter et résoudre les dilemmes bioéthiques complexes de manière scientifique, rigoureuse et systématique, dans une perspective interdisciplinaire — biomédicale, philosophique et juridique — avec un accent mis sur la protection de la vie et de la dignité de la personne, depuis le commencement de son existence jusqu’à sa mort naturelle.
Il offre un niveau d’études officielles dans le cadre européen, avec la possibilité de poursuivre un doctorat en Europe.
Il s’agit d’un programme de formation destiné aux experts de haut niveau. L’enseignement dispensé se situe à l’intersection de différents domaines du savoir philosophique, médical et juridique, tant dans leurs aspects théoriques que pratiques.
Ce programme permet aux étudiants de fonder leur réflexion sur des concepts anthropologiques essentiels, tels que la dignité humaine, l’être humain et la personne, l’acte moral et les principes de la bioéthique. Il leur offre également l’opportunité de réfléchir aux découvertes scientifiques les plus récentes à la lumière de l’éthique biomédicale.
Depuis 2017, la Master-Class forme chaque année plus de 100 élèves, consolidant ainsi un réseau d’Alumni solide et dynamique.
Actuellement, l’édition 2025-2026 est en cours.
Guidata dalla Dott.ssa Elena Postigo, la Cattedra Internazionale di Bioetica Jérôme Lejeune si è affermata come punto di riferimento internazionale nel campo della Bioetica.
Ispirata dall’eredità del Prof. Jérôme Lejeune, combina competenza medica e riflessione etica per affrontare le sfide bioetiche odierne. Il suo lavoro si fonda su tre pilastri principali: educazione, ricerca e divulgazione in Bioetica—sempre guidati da una prospettiva realistica e da un profondo rispetto per la dignità di ogni vita umana.
Fondata nel 2009 dalla Dott.ssa Mónica López Barahona all’interno del Centro de Estudios Biosanitarios, la Cattedra è entrata a far parte della Fondazione Jérôme Lejeune nel 2015.
